Quit calories, like a drug.

Addiction to a drug is much like one’s want for food. According to a recent study from the National Institute on Drug Abuse there is a common thread between the two. The body needs to consume ever-increasing amounts of both substances (drugs or food) to keep producing dopamine, the chemical that triggers feelings of joy. Reduce the amount of food you are consuming and dopamine levels fall. However, just like a drug addict, mood might change and binging could occur. (mensfitness.com)

My take- There is also a common thread in reducing the use of both- will power and the decision to stop.
