Run To Home Base 9k

Maybe the coolest road race in New England is the Run To Home Base 9k. Participants finish the race by actually crossing Home Base in Fenway Park!

Along with running  inside of the Red Sox’s home feild they raise good money for worthy causes. Sounds awesome, right? Wellll I’m not exacly what you’d call a runner, but a friend and former coworker is!

Marathon Runner and fellow Certified Personal Trainer Shannon Peterson is running to honor military heroes but Shannon needs our help!

“I have decided to take on a very unique and important cause. I will be completing two races this May to honor military heroes and raising the necessary funds to service the needs of veterans. No matter what your thoughts may be on war, one thing can be agreed upon is that the servicemen, women, and their families who dedicate their lives to our country deserve to be honored and respected. It is the hopes of my participating in these two races, I can do a small part in paying tribute to those who have given so much to this country.

My first race, The RUN TO HOME BASE 9K is a unique and special event that celebrates our military heroes and raises necessary funds for the Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital Home Base Program. The Home Base Program is committed to serving the needs of veterans with combat stress and/or traumatic brain injury and their families. On May 22nd, I will be completing a 9K fundraising run with a once in a lifetime finish, by crossing home plate at Fenway Park. The following weekend I will be completing the Memorial Day Marathon, which honors our fallen heroes and a portion of proceeds support the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. Similar to the 9K, the cause will make this run such a memorable experience. I am asked often how do I run 26.2 miles? One of the reasons that makes it a little easier, is knowing that I am completing it for those who cannot.

In order to make these events a success, I need your help. I have set a fundraising goal of $1000, while it seems we are asked to donate to many important causes each day, even $5 or $10 can make a big difference in these peoples lives. I will be sure to keep you updated with my progress and of course send pictures of my once in a lifetime finish!”
