The month between Thanksgiving and Christmas is filled with lots of holiday gatherings, friends, family, and presents. It is also, unfortunately, filled with lots of missed workouts. Instead of giving up working out altogether due to a hectic holiday schedule, remember that even ten minutes of exercise is better than none at all!

We tend to think of workouts in long increments – like a 30 minute cardio session, but fitness can be achieved with short bursts of exercise, too. When it is harder to make it to the gym during the busy month of December, look for little ways to fit activity into your day. Avoid busyness induced fa-la-la-la-laziness by getting as creative with your workouts as you do with your gift-giving.

Try the following ideas and other mini exercise sessions to maintain your fitness without missing out on any of the season’s festivities.

– For every present you wrap do a set of sit-ups or jumping jacks
– Do lunges while you wish relatives a happy holiday on the phone
– Take a parking space a good distance away from the mall and get a
brisk walk in before you do some holiday shopping
– On the day of the office holiday party, try taking the stairs instead of
the elevator

A commitment to incorporating activity into what you’re already doing can really add up over the course of a day, a week, and the entire holiday season. Stay festive and fit by squeezing exercise into your day when you’re too busy to make it to the gym!

Happy Healthydays : )
