Don’t drink Gatorade while working out

It makes me cringe when I see it. It’s simply negligence that is keeping people out of shape. People are working hard, sweating, panting on the elliptical or treadmill. Unfortunately they are not burning any body fat, and won’t, as long as they are drinking Gatorade.

Gatorade is great for performance. It can help replenish electrolytes, keep you hydrated, and maintain energy during long bouts of physical activity. All of those great things have nothing to do with performing cardio in hopes of fat loss. In fact, Gatorade is the last thing we want. When we perform cardio we unfortunately must burn our available energy in the form of glucose (blood sugar) before we ever get to the fat we hope to remove.  So by sipping that tasty Gatorade we are continually fueling our body with sugar (that is, after all, the whole point of drinking Gatorade) and in a sense guarding our fat from being used as fuel in replace of the sugar.

Don’t drink Gatorade while working out if you hope to burn fat.
